Scorpiorefugee Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 I,ve just been reading some posts about deteriorating alloys on facelift Ghias etc. and wondered if anyone could advise on the re-use of my old 5 hole granny wheels. I have these wheels from an old Scorpio, done 200K + but still virtually immacculate. They fit but the centre hole is a bit big. The look good but are they safe? What do you think? Ron. Quote
Marky Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 I wouldn't fit them...tooooo risky! You need a wheel that has 5x112 PCD (stud pattern) 57.1mm centre bore diameterand an offset of 35-45..something off an Audi a4/a6, VW passatt, some merc'swill do the job nicely.... Quote
seatkid Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 They fit but the centre hole is a bit big. The look good but are they safe? What do you think? Three wheels on my wagon...and I'm still rollin along.....  Quote
Guest marcusheawood Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 listen to SK, the centrebore is what makes the wheels fit properly, the bolts are only there to prevent it spinning round! Don't be silly, either get a bore adaptor (unlikely) or sell 'em. Quote
Guest EVSS Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 you can if you go to a alloy wheel centre get a set of reducers for the hole. i had a set on my galaxy, they are hard plastic and basically just centre the wheel. i had mazda xedos 9 alloys (17") on both my scorpio then my galaxy. 3 years on the galaxy and no problems other than different bolts, they still looked good when the new owner drove away..... Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted February 1, 2006 Author Report Posted February 1, 2006 Pretty much as I had thought. that's why they're still in the garage. The point about the adaptors is interesting and may be worth persuing. It's all rather sad really. The granny was a lovely car until it got humped by a white van and with all nearly new tyres... I do know that I would have to replace them with reinforced ones! Still, if I still had it I wouldn't have had two Gals and that would have been sad :) Just out of interest, my first, and favorite S reg Gal has done 20K on the current tyres and they still look new. I used to get 60-80k out of tyres on the granny. What's the best I can hope for on this one? Ron. P.S. Great site this! Thanks again for the replies everyone. Quote
